About the Tutor
Harriet has been stitching for the better part of 45 years and teaching various types of stitching for 30. Smocking, quilting, dressmaking, embroidery, and crewelwork are all methods that Harriet loves and has taught.
In 2009 Harriet and Phillipa Turnbull met and became fast friends. Phillipa taught Harriet the ins and outs of crewel embroidery, and that is where the fun started. Harriet began test-stitching smaller kits for the Crewel Work Company in 2011, and kit originating with Phillipa and the entire team in 2017 with the ‘Muncaster Bedhanging’ (Released in 2019). Phillipa and Harriet co-taught two crewel work classes at the ‘Lady Anne’s Needlework Retreat’ in St. Andrew’s, Scotland in the fall of 2022. In addition to ‘the Muncaster Bedhanging’, Harriet helped to originate ‘Gerogian Bouquet’ (Released in 2023), ‘A Hunting We Will Go’ (released in 2023) and is currently working on ‘The Gawthorpe Bedhanging’. She has test-stitched too many kits to name.
When not stitching, Harriet can be found cooking; entertaining; spending time with her husband, Stephen; reading; texting with her adult son, Matt; or playing with her three stubborn (but sweet) Westies.
